LOUISVILLE – The so-called Dosage Dual Qualifier Derby system, which ran up a spectacular series of winners through the ’80s and ’90s, pinpoints three candidates in tomorrow’s Kentucky Derby.
They are: Johannesburg, Saarland and Came Home.
Dual qualifiers are horses that boast a Dosage Index of 4.0 or less, which suggests a strong staying influence, and were weighted within 10 pounds on the 2-year-old Experimental Handicap.
The system has been widely ridiculed by some breeding and handicapping purists, especially since it has failed to connect in the past few years.
