NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. is remaining with ESPN.

“We appreciate Mel’s ability to compromise and his commitment to ESPN over the past 22 years,” ESPN executive VP Mark Shapiro said in a statement. “We anticipate having a signed agreement by Friday.”

A week-and-a-half ago, Shapiro was much less optimistic, saying in a statement to The Post that Kiper’s contract would not be renewed because of “non-monetary” differences.

Kiper at that time agreed that money wasn’t an issue, but that the language in the contract was a problem. Kiper said that neither Shapiro nor anyone else from ESPN had ever informed him of the news.

Shapiro and ESPN then relented, allowing Kiper a second chance. Now both sides are just waiting for Kiper to sign the new contract.

Kiper didn’t return a call yesterday.
