JOHANNESBURG — Australia captain Tim Cahill will miss his team’s Group D match against Ghana after FIFA confirmed his one-match ban for a red card yesterday.

Cahill was sent off for a foul on Bastian Schweinsteiger in the 56th minute of Australia’s 4-0 opening defeat to Germany on Sunday. The midfielder received only the automatic one-match ban, which covers Saturday’s game against Ghana; FIFA could have increased the penalty if it found his foul serious enough.

FIFA also said South Africa goalkeeper Itumeleg Khune will miss his team’s final Group A match against France because of the red card he received in Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to Uruguay.
