It’s easy to see Kafka as Daboll’s right-hand man for the past four years — and play-caller for three of them — and assume that they are equally culpable in Daniel Jones’ stunted development, in running Jaxson Dart too often for him to avoid the concussion that he suffered Sunday, and in scoring the second-fewest cumulative points in the NFL since 2023.

But here are four things — besides the most obvious of winning more games — Kafka can do over the next eight weeks to distinguish himself as a separate entity.

1. Promote Jameis Winston

If Dart isn’t cleared from the concussion protocol by Sunday, Kafka’s first game will be with a backup quarterback. Which one?
