The open-to-the-public portion of training camp is done for the summer. The evaluating and fine-tuning of the offense, defense and special teams operations is ongoing. One preseason game is in the books, and players are moved around the depth chart board on a daily basis.

Making plays and creating turnovers in practice — he made a sensational one-handed interception this past Sunday and the next day he came up with his team-high fourth INT of camp — is a good way to make an impression on a new coaching staff. Holmes’ first two seasons contained more downs than ups, and he needed a strong summer. The 24-year-old former fourth-round pick has emerged as the heavy favorite to land the nickel corner job.
