So maybe Jim Harbaugh isn’t such a gracious winner.

Apparently, he might not be the most accommodating loser, either.

Long before Harbaugh, the 49ers head coach, was embroiled with Lions counterpart Jim Schwartz in what has become the most scrutinized handshake since Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat clenched mitts in front of Bill Clinton in 1993, there was another end-of-game coaching get-together that raised eyebrows.

On Nov. 25, 2006, Harbaugh’s University of San Diego team lost on the road to Cal-Davis, 37-27. It was their only blemish in an 11-1 season, and it came in the final game played at UC-Davis’ Toomey Field.

Harbaugh was described as less than obliging that day, too.

According to one witness, UC-Davis coach Bob Biggs headed toward the center of the field for the customary pleasantries when “Harbaugh runs toward us, Bob extends his hand and Harbaugh then turns and runs toward his locker room area.”

Biggs, described as puzzled at the time, yesterday declined to comment on the witness’ report.
