This was supposed to be Tayshana (Chicken) Murphy’s season. The talented senior guard had fully rehabbed from a torn ACL that cost her last year at Murry Bergtraum. Murphy, with her signature smile and her on-court grit, was planning on leading the Lady Blazers to a 14th straight PSAL Class AA title with close friend Shequana Harris by her side.

Her team will take the court for the second time this season Saturday against Bishop Loughlin, her former school. They will do so in her memory after Murphy was tragically shot and killed in September.

Her godfather and Loughlin coach Kasim Alston decided to kick off his team’s season with an event in her honor. Anyone who wants to take the time to remember the life and the impact of Murphy should make their way to Nazareth on Saturday for the first annual C.H.I.C.K.E.N. Stop the Violence Hoops Classic
