Seven weeks into the season, there is really nothing more anyone could ask of the Giants. They are one of only two teams (along with the Eagles) in the NFL with six wins, and one of only seven clubs in total (adding in the Jets, Chiefs, Bills, Cowboys and Vikings) with at least five. In a time of great parity, the Giants have somehow infiltrated the league’s upper echelon — through seven games.
What the Giants have not maintained through those seven games is their health, which makes what they have accomplished thus far all the more remarkable. Sometimes — often, actually — the healthiest teams are also the most successful teams. That hasn’t been the path for these Giants.
Whether it has been players lost for the entire season or players forced to sit out for multiple games due to nagging or moderately serious injuries, the Giants’ depth has been stretched quite a bit. According to ManGamesLost.com, the Giants and the Seahawks were the most injured teams in the league through Week 6. Those two clubs square off Sunday in Seattle.
Further illustrating the point, the Giants also ranked as the third-most banged up team through Week 6 with an injury score of 60.6, according to Fox Sports’ Banged Up Score. The most injured teams were the Broncos (58.9) and Ravens (59.6). It comes as no great surprise that the Eagles, the lone undefeated team, also were the healthiest, with a Banged Up Score of 88.2. It also is significant that the second- and third-healthiest teams were the Vikings (87.7) and Chiefs (86.7), teams that now have a combined record of 10-3.
