QUEBEC CITY — Patrick Roy was screaming at his defensemen, disbelieving and unable to hide it.
He couldn’t stand how poorly they were shooting the puck. Couldn’t believe this was a group of players with NHL aspirations. Couldn’t contain himself.
Andrew Andricopoulos, one of the defensemen, can’t put a date on the episode aside from knowing it happened during Roy’s early days coaching the Quebec Remparts. But you don’t watch Roy melt down and forget about it.
The Hall of Fame netminder told his goalie to get out of the crease. He grabbed a blocker and glove. And wearing nothing but a tracksuit, he told his defensemen to start shooting on him, barking instructions all the while.
