SAN JOSE, Calif. — Sam Darnold deserved this night in the spotlight inside the San Jose Convention Center on Super Bowl Opening Night, engulfed by national media, just one more hill for him to climb to the top of Mount Lombardi.

“Yeah,” he said. “I grew up dreaming of this moment. I grew up watching a ton of great football players and a ton of great football teams get to this moment and make great plays, and I feel like whenever that happened after a Super Bowl, I was always emulating that in my backyard, my front yard with my friends. So yeah, I always dreamed of moments like this.”

Darnold all these years later is the face of the Seahawks in Super Bowl LX, a compelling story of resilience and perseverance and self-belief and the power of the human spirit that deserves to stand as an example for everyone.
