WWE is doing the right thing for all parties by holding a tournament to determine who will be John Cena’s final opponent. 

How well it will be received will be decided by the winner and the surprises along the way to close out what has been an excellent second half of Cena’s retirement tour. 

A tournament maximizes the final two months of Cena’s career in three ways. 

First, it allows more than two wrestlers to get a rub and growth stories to propel them into 2026 off Cena’s retirement, as a first-round loss could turn into a three-month program if done right.
