There was never much doubt about where Aaron Judge would be on Opening Day this season: at Yankee Stadium.
But there was a question about which baseline he would be standing on: the first-base line with the Yankees or the third-base line with the visiting Giants?
We got the answer when Judge signed a nine-year, $360 million deal to remain a Yankee, but the presence of the Giants at Thursday’s opener at Yankee Stadium served as a reminder of what might have been had the offseason gone differently and Hal Steinbrenner not agreed to match the Giants’ offer.
Aaron Boone again admitted he had once pictured Judge dressed in orange and black being introduced as a Giant, calling it “one of my lowest, darkest places this winter … that was not a good thought.”
