FOR anglers who want to wet a line, cod fishing remains the only game in town, but what a game it is.
Cod are being caught all along the South Shore, but Montauk has the “reel” hot action. Last week saw a slamfest aboard many of the boats, with most fish running 8-12 pounds and the pool winners above 15 pounds.
For those who want to stay dry, the New York Sportfishing Federation Forum & Auction will be held at the Freeport Recreation Center today through Sunday.
The show opens today at 2 p.m., with a good crowd expected early as anglers look for the best early deals among the more than 50 exhibitor booths.
Show hours are: today, 2-8 p.m.; tomorrow, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Admission is $10, $8 for kids and seniors, and children under 12 get in free. Location is 130 E. Merrick Road in Freeport, less than a half-mile west of Exit M9W off the Meadowbrook.

While you’re at the Freeport Show, sign up with the New York Sportfishing Federation and the Recreational Fishing Alliance. Together with the national lobbying power of the RFA, your membership in both organizations helps to protect your rights as a New York saltwater angler in Albany and in Washington, D.C.
You can also join fellow Federation and RFA-NY members in D.C. on Feb. 24 in a united effort to reform the Magnuson Stevens Act in order to keep America fishing.
