Dan Geriot stood across from the woman who would soon become his wife. Mike Magpayo was to his right, a newly certified minister who propelled Geriot’s ascent from Buies Creek, N.C., to an NBA championship.

“Most all of us go through life at times wondering when you’ll meet that special someone, and when you do, your life is changed for the better,” Magpayo said, as the wedding officiant. “But enough of mine and Dan’s story.”

Kevin Hovde stood behind Geriot as his best man, a five-year teammate who slept on the bottom bunk of their Richmond dorm room.

“I love that dude with everything I’ve got,” Geriot said. “That was an easy best man deal. That’s an everyday talk. That’s an occupational wife.”
