Iona College announced yesterday it has extended second-year men’s basketball coach Tim Cluess’ contract through the 2016-17 season.

Originally signed to a four-year deal, with two years guaranteed, Cluess led the Gaels to 25 wins last season and has followed it up by guiding the nation’s fifth-highest scoring team to a share of first-place in the MAAC (17-5, 9-2).

Cluess has earned a 42-17 overall record, 22-7 in conference, while taking Iona to the MAAC and CollegeInsider.com tournament title games last season.

“I’m thrilled. It’s terrific and I’m really thankful to the school for giving me this opportunity,” Cluess told The Post. “I feel very proud to be working at a school that likes our work ethic and what we do here with our team.’’

Cluess came to Iona after compiling a 98-23 record at C.W. Post.

Iona will play host to Nevada (18-3) on Feb. 18 in an ESPN Bracketbuster game to be televised nationally on ESPN or ESPN2.
