Iona junior Shawn Jackson will not return to the team this season, the school released in a statement Tuesday.

The details for his departure are unknown, with Director of Athletics, Eugene Marshall Jr. citing respect for Jackson’s privacy.

The 6-foot-9 forward appeared in 12 games with the Gaels this season, making eight starts, while averaging 1.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in 13.5 minutes per game.

A native of Florida, Jackson had been in his first season at Iona, having previously played at Murray State and JUCO school, Northwest Florida State College.

Iona (9-6, 3-1) is currently tied for first-place in the MAAC, following last season’s NCAA tournament berth.
