The Islanders look to rebound from Monday night’s loss to the Rangers as they take on the expansion Thrashers tonight at the Coliseum.

Atlanta is winless in three games 0-2-1, while the Isles are 1-2-0. Defenseman Eric Cairns was recalled from Providence on Tuesday, to take the roster spot vacated by blueliner Eric Brewer, who was sent down to Lowell after some uninspired play Monday night.

Brewer took a penalty that gave the Rangers a five-on-three advantage Monday night. He was then caught flat-footed on a second-period goal by Todd Harvey. Brewer remained glued to the bench for most of the third period. The 20-year-old probably won’t be long in the minors, he’s just getting in some work to regain his confidence and physical play.

Brewer was a first-round draft pick (fifth overall) of the Isles in 1997.
