No one should blame the Mets or Yankees for failing to sign Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The Mets offered the same $325 million, 12-year deal he accepted from the Dodgers before the 2024 season, and the Yankees bid $300M for 10 years, which is a higher average annual salary.

The Yankees said then that they didn’t want to exceed Gerrit Cole’s $325M contract. But their offer was still comparable. And no one involved now believes that he ever wanted to go east, which The Post first reported early in the courtship.

It’s apparent to all that he simply wanted to go to the Dodgers.

And no one can blame him for that, either.
