JARED HAS NO. 2 JITTERS
GIANT NOTES
The first time Eli Manning gets sacked this season, Jared Lorenzen knows what his thoughts will be.
“Get up, hurry up, OK, you’re good,” Lorenzen said.
As the newly named Giant backup quarterback, Lorenzen is next in line should anything happen to Manning, starting with Sunday night’s game against the Colts. “Mentally the nerves hit you a little bit more, I think,” Lorenzen said. “I don’t know, I’ll find out.”
Lorenzen spent all of last season as the No. 3 quarterback, behind Tim Hasselbeck, but Manning never had to miss a single play. The roles are flip-flopped this season and, on the surface, there’s little different in the daily operations of Lorenzen and Hasselbeck. They continue to split the practice reps with the scout team, and after practice they both stay and watch film. One tangible difference during the game is that as the No. 3, Hasselbeck will hold the clipboard and chart the plays.
“The biggest change will be on Sunday, knowing that instead of him I’m one play away and he’s two plays away,” Lorenzen said.
There was no pomp and circumstance to announce Lorenzen’s promotion. Coach Tom Coughlin on Tuesday afternoon casually informed him walking inside the tunnel after practice.

The Giants weren’t kidding about needing to “manage” LB LaVar Arrington’s right knee situation. He did not practice yesterday but he’s listed as probable in the first injury report of the week. WR Sinorice Moss (quad) is also questionable, as is G Rich Seubert (toe).
The Colts are not at healthy, with 19 players listed as questionable, including eight starters, three of whom did not practice: DT Corey Simon (knee), CB Nicholas Harper (ankle) and G Ryan Lilja (knee).
