NET NOTES
At least Jason Kidd didn’t feel cheated.
The league fined Kidd $10,000 yesterday for his critical comments of the officiating after the Nets’ 96-93 loss to Memphis Wednesday night.
“I got my money’s worth,” said Kidd who was enraged at the crew of Violet Palmer, Mike Callahan and Gary Zielinski. “Nothing surprises me with that crew. They missed a good game out there.”
The rumors have been out there for months – the Nets having interest in Portland’s Rasheed Wallace. Now, in light of a Nets’ losing streak and the Blazers’ constant trips to the bail bondsman, there are “lukewarm” conversations again regarding a swap involving Wallace and Kenyon Martin, a league source maintained last night.
Wallace is on the last season of his contract, worth $17 million, so the Nets would need to package Martin ($5.12 mil) and likely Kerry Kittles ($10.27 mil) to land in the ballpark. But the source indicated the deal is still in strictly a discussion stage.
Nets are home to Phoenix tonight. This will be the fifth time Stephon Marbury has faced the Nets since he was traded away for Kidd.
Toni Kukoc (back) was placed on the injury list yesterday, joining Brian Skinner (knee). And Tim Thomas (ankle) missed his fifth game.
Kidd on Islander owner Charles Wang withdrawing his bid to buy team: “I could care less. We’ve got bigger things to worry about.”
When things go wrong – and they can’t get much more wrong than they have for the Nets recently – you can always take a page out of The Pat Riley 101 Coaching Manual. And that’s what Byron Scott is considering.
“There are some things I haven’t tried. Costs money, though, I don’t know if I want to spend that much money on it,” said Scott, showing that despite the four-game losing streak the Nets carried into last night’s game with Milwaukee, he still had a sense of humor.
