As far back as last season, Jets special-teams coach Mike Westhoff coveted Matt Turk.

The Jets were mired in a myriad of punting difficulties, centering around the offseason surgery of incumbent punter Tom Tupa and its lingering effects during the season.

Late last week, when the Jets agreed to terms with Turk, the former Dolphins’ punter and three-time Pro Bowler, on a four-year, $5.5 million contract with incentives, Westhoff finally had his man.

“I think he’s one of the best in the league,” Westhoff said yesterday. “Being here in New York, I’m not sure I would trade him for anyone else. He’s a big, strong guy and up here in New York it’s windy.”
