A memorable, euphoric day at MetLife Stadium ended with the home crowd chanting Mike White’s name in honor of the remarkable NFL starting debut of the Jets’ unheralded backup quarterback.

There also could — and perhaps should — have been chants for Mike LaFleur, the Jets offensive coordinator whose brilliant game plan had a Bengals defense that ranked fifth in the league entering the day on its back foot for the entire game.

The anatomy of the Jets’ 34-31 victory, the biggest upset of the NFL’s Week 8, began with a Saturday cell phone conversation between LaFleur and White, who was starting in place of rookie Zach Wilson (sidelined due to a knee injury).

“Mike came to me on Saturday, called me, and said he was going to let it rip to start the game,’’ White said after completing 37 of 45 passes for 405 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. “The decision to cut it loose early kind of caught them off guard, and we were able execute the offense really early.’’
