Never expecting to be a major player in free agency this time around, the Giants stated their priority this off-season was to re-sign Shaun Williams, their unrestricted starting safety. Even that goal might be too much for the salary-cap strapped Giants.

Williams has visits scheduled to see the Titans, Eagles and Broncos. According to Williams’ agent, Sean Jones, he and the Giants have not engaged in any substantive negotiating thus far, and Williams – who wants to return – has no choice but to test the waters.

A first-round draft pick in 1998, Williams is coming off a sub-par season but he will likely command a contract that averages between $4-5 million per year. The Giants are believed to be only $800,000 under the $71.1 million cap.
