He gets married today on an exotic island off the coast of South Carolina. On March 15, he’s due to receive a $1 million bonus from the Giants.

Kerry Collins, however, is not about to cash in on the staggering – the Giants would say outrageous – contract proposal recently put forth by his agent, David Dunn. The Giants like Collins and have no problem committing to him, but not nearly for the nine-year, $75 million ransom that came across their fax machine. That bloated request also included a signing bonus of $25 million.

Partly for salary cap relief – Collins’ 2002 salary is $5 million – and partly to secure his services, the Giants wanted to extend Collins, but were thinking more in the range of three years for about $15 million.

Most likely, the Giants will allow Collins – the 17th rated quarterback in the league last season – to play out the final year of his contract
