The brief and unfulfilling Giant career of Joe Montgomery came to a predictable end yesterday when the oft-injured RB was waived by the team that used a second-round pick on him in the 1999 NFL Draft.

Bad luck stalked Montgomery throughout his three seasons with the Giants. He gained 348 yards in only seven games as a rookie but played in only three games in 2000 and missed the entire 2001 season with a ruptured left Achilles tendon.

In the coming week the Giants will sever ties with several players in order to get under the salary cap before the free-agency signing period that starts Friday. Guard Glenn Parker, cornerback Dave Thomas and tight end Howard Cross are the veterans most vulnerable.
