Long before the Kansas City Chiefs became an irritant, they were an irresistible part of every football Sunday. This wasn’t because they won every week, although they already had begun to win plenty. This wasn’t because their No. 1 fan was also the most famous pop star on the planet.

No. This was because of one football player.

This was because of Patrick Mahomes.

It wasn’t just that Mahomes was great, either. It was the manner in which he played the position, a combination of grace and style, of imagination, of holy-smokes-did-he-really-just-do-THAT wonder. Every now and again we get that kind of rare talent that brings us along for a super-sonic, supercharged ride toward a destination we’ve never seen before.
