St. John’s roster retooling continued Wednesday.
A day after landing top international point guard Quinn Ellis and losing Dylan Darling to the transfer portal, Joson Sanon and Kelvin Odih are headed elsewhere as well, according to sources. The Red Storm have now lost six players to the transfer portal from their Big East regular-season and postseason championship team.
The 6-foot-5 Sanon had some nice moments but underwhelmed in his one season in Queens. He averaged 7.9 points and 2.4 rebounds while shooting 33.8 percent from the field. In three NCAA Tournament games, he averaged just 3 points and shot 3-for-16 from the field.
Sanon had said he planned to return, but that changed. The expectation is that Ian Jackson will be back as the starting shooting guard, which likely meant a reserve role as a junior for Sanon, a former five-star recruit.
