The point guard the Knicks took in the second round at 36 could turn out to be a better floor leader than Illinois’ Frank Williams, a streaky shooter who struggled his junior year.

The Knicks stunned even their own college scouts when they chose 20-year-old 6-2 Yugoslav PG Milos Vujanic, the captain of his country’s National Team. He won’t play for the Knicks at summer league in three weeks nor likely next season, but he’ll be on view at August’s World Championships in Indianapolis.

Vujanic is under contract for next year. European scout Kevin Wilson raved about him to GM Scott Layden, who dispatched pro scout Jay Hillock in March for a 10-day overseas trip in which he visited four countries and came away most impressed with the Yugo point guard.

The Knicks passed on sharp shooter Predrag Savovic but will try to sign him to their summer league team.
