MEMPHIS — Kobe Bryant scored on a breakaway dunk with 4:14 left in the third quarter last night to pass Jerry West as the career leading scorer for the Lakers.

Bryant, in his 14th season, entered the game needing 29 points to pass West. He missed his first three shots in the game, but scored 23 points in the first half and finished with 44 in a 95-93 loss to the Grizzlies.

West ended his 14-year career, all with the Lakers, with 25,192 points.

Bryant moved within a point of West’s mark on a dunk with 4:37 left in the third. He passed West 23 seconds later.
