First off, this isn’t a Spectravision special. We’re not comparing bodies here. So hold your hormones, this is a contest of sideline skills, not looks.
ABC’s Melissa Stark is a solid broadcaster. When Al Michaels throws it down to her on MNF, she cleanly delivers information.
She does have a Cal Ripken-like streak of starting each report with “Well, Al.” (It is not necessarily a bad thing, just a nuance someone who watches too much TV notices.)
While Stark is more of a story-teller, ESPN’s Suzy Kolber analyzes from the field. Even if some caveman viewers might be repelled a woman’s NFL analysis, Kolber’s studies make her a worthy listen.
There is a real sense that she knows what she is talking about and would be watching the game if she wasn’t working it.
Ultimately, Kolber brings more to a telecast. Stark might have Monday night, but, more prestigious ly, Kolber has a Matchup victory.
