Mark McCarroll, a 6-10 senior center from Christ the King in Queens, said he has committed to play for Syracuse next season.

”I like the coaching staff,” said McCarroll, who was first team All-CHSAA in The Post this season. ”[Head coach Jim] Boeheim’s a real nice guy. One of the best coaches in basketball.”

In choosing the Orangemen, McCarroll turned down Florida State and Villanova. He said he was excited about Syracuse’s successful tradition.

”It’s a winning school,” he said, ”and I’m a winner.”

This past season, McCarroll averaged 11.4 points and 5.7 rebounds in leading the Royals to the CHSAA finals.

Also announcing his college decision yesterday was Christ the King senior guard Kason Mims, who said he will play for Charleston Southern.

The 6-3 Mims averaged seven points this past season and made 24 of 60 3-point attempts.

”I like the area and the coaching staff,” Mims said of the South Carolina school.

Mims also considered Niagara, Canisius and Drexel.
