Kodai Senga volunteered to Mets officials on Friday that he would like an opportunity to face hitters next week, giving team brass one last piece of information before a potential wild-card series roster materializes.
The right-hander’s request has been granted. And even following his shaky outing for Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, the Mets haven’t ruled out the possibility of a Senga return this season.

Sign up Now“There is a certain level of trust with him that he knows himself better than we know him,” pitching coach Jeremy Hefner said, when asked if Senga could still show enough to secure a postseason roster spot. “In the best way, he has a keen awareness of where his body is at and if he says he’s good, then there’s some level of trust from the organization to believe that.”
In his second start for Syracuse since agreeing to a minor league assignment, Senga allowed four earned runs on six hits over 3 ²/₃ innings on Thursday with four strikeouts and two walks.
