PHILADELPHIA — Coincidentally, both the Phillies and Mets prioritized a center fielder and big bullpen upgrades at the deadline. While the Phillies hit a figurative grand slam with their pickups, the Mets aren’t coming close to that sort of success with theirs.

The Phillies’ superb deadline work might not be the biggest difference in a division race that looks all but over now after their 1-0 win over the Mets here Monday night. And it certainly wasn’t the only difference in this game that altered the story of a rivalry dominated recently by the Mets.

However, the contrast was on full display. The Phillies’ pickups continued to kill it while one notable Mets’ addition continued to struggle mightily.
