Jeff McNeil’s smooth swings to begin this Mets season have mirrored his offseason on the golf course. Participating in a match play tournament over the winter near his home in Nipomo, Calif., he shot a career-best 63.

The Mets second baseman grew up with the game, and was good enough as a junior amateur to consider a professional career. In 2019, Golf Magazine named him the best golfer among MLB players.
