Gil Hodges, one of only two managers in team history to front the Mets to a World Series championship, finally was elected Sunday night to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Golden Days Era committee.

The overdue announcement also underscores the ongoing managerial vacancy within the organization, though that process finally is expected to ramp up this month with other personnel transactions indefinitely suspended due to the lockout last week.

The Post’s Mike Vaccaro already made a compelling case last week for the hiring of long-ago Yankees manager Buck Showalter, especially because owner Steve Cohen has said he isn’t crazy about having another inexperienced dugout leader “learning on my dime.”
