Max Scherzer’s son, Derek Alexander, doesn’t seem happy about the Mets pitcher and his wife Erica May-Scherzer welcoming another sister into their family.
On Monday, Erica announced on Instagram that the couple is expecting their fourth child together.
“Our traveling circus is about to get a little crazier! Baby girl Scherzer joins us February 2023. 💕” Erica wrote in her caption, including a photo of the family that showed the couple’s youngest child, Derek, 2, crying while sitting in the grass.
Scherzer, 38, and his wife are already parents to two daughters: Brooke, 4, and 3-year-old Kacey.
In the pregnancy announcement, the Mets ace and his wife are pictured posing with their kids, while holding balloons that were numbered one through four.
“Congratulations! 🧡💙” the Mets’ verified Instagram account commented. Kayla Harper, the wife of Phillies right fielder Bryce Harper, congratulated the Scherzers in the comments.
Erica gave birth to the couple’s son last May, via a scheduled C-section, while Scherzer was on the mound in a start for the Nationals.

After a short stint with the Dodgers, Scherzer agreed to a three-year, $130 million deal with the Mets in November 2021. The contract comes with a record $43.3 million average annual salary. Scherzer is 9-4 with a 2.27 ERA for the Mets this season.
