Common sense won out. What was best for both sides became reality.

And there’s almost no room for complaints.

The Mets are bringing back Pete Alonso on a two-year deal worth $54 million with an opt-out after the first season, The Post’s Jon Heyman reported. Alonso chose that deal over a three-year deal worth $71 million, Heyman added, betting on himself to potentially recoup his value with a big year.

This always made the most sense.
