METS TOWN, USA
So much for Jeff Van Gundy turning the Rockets around.
No surprise here after watching Van Gundy help send the Knicks into ruin. But thatâs another story. This is Yankee-Met talk today. This is the state of the Yankees today.
They are 10 games out and Memorial Day is still a long way away. Rookies will have started half their games after the weekend. They have little energy, canât hit and canât deliver. Kyle Farnsworth, of all people, canât handle Rocketâs contract situation. Johnny Damon should have been put on the DL weeks ago for his own good. Roger Clemens is off to a solid start in his âspring trainingââ and should be ready by the end of the month. Jason Giambi is sorry again.
This is one big mess. Can it be fixed? Winning the wild card will not be easy. The only thing going good for the Yankees right now is that Clemens has had terrific weather to work in down here, blue skies and high 80s-low 90s while back home itâs more like April.
The Mets are more athletic, more of a team. They are putting themselves in perfect position to win the NL East again. And manager Willie Randolph once again has shut up his critics, doing it his way
Mets fans, the town belongs to you right now. Congratulations. Over at Frenchyâs (local), there are four of them, theyâll raise a toast for you.
