Michael Irvin is a character who could not be created by fiction.

Irvin’s prevailing take since Dak Prescott went down with a thumb injury in the Cowboys’ season-opener against the Buccaneers has been trust in Cooper Rush (and a repudiation of Stephen A. Smith’s idea of calling Colin Kaepernick).

Upon defeating the Giants on “Monday Night Football,” the Cowboys have gone 2-0 with Rush at quarterback. Consequently, Irvin celebrated in sweaty fashion, proverbially spiking the football in a new Twitter video.

“You see that? We did it again. I don’t know how it happened! But we have done it again. We have stolen another one. I want to say something, Stephen A., here goes the new slogan: It’s as our backup, in Rush we trust! As a backup, in Rush we trust. As our backup, of America’s team, In Rush we trust!” Irvin exclaimed.

In the Cowboys’ primetime win over their division rival, Rush threw for 215 yards and one touchdown. He posted similar numbers — 235 yards and a touchdown, to be exact — in Dallas’ stunning Week 2 win over the Bengals.

The Cowboys will host the Commanders on Sunday, though it remains to be seen if Prescott will return.

Irvin makes it known that he is an unabashed Cowboys cheerleader, and it figures to only be a matter of time before the pendulum swings back and Smith returns the favor on “First Take”— should Dallas painfully squander a future contest.

Irvin played for the Cowboys from 1988 through 1999. He had 750 receptions for nearly 12,000 yards, and 65 touchdowns in 159 career games. The legendary wide receiver played a major role in three Super Bowl championships with the Cowboys in the 1990s.

That said, if Irvin is getting this lathered up over victories in Week 3, what could he possibly do to celebrate a potential Cowboys playoff victory?
