ALTHOUGH hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers had more than 100 Yankee games removed from their cable systems, this past baseball season, Mayor Bloomberg didn’t get involved.

He said that the Cablevision-YES dispute is none of City Hall’s business – even though Mayor Giuliani once interceded to clear Bloomberg TV on City cable systems.

And now City Hall is spending a lot of resources to try to bring the 2012 Olympics to NYC. And we still haven’t found 10 people who are even mildly enthused by the prospect.

The save rule’s standards are such a joke that while fans recognize that A’s closer Billy Koch had the kind of year that next season likely will relegate him to set-up or mop-up man, he had 44 saves – and won the Rolaids AL Relief Man Award.

While Mike Weisman, Fox’s independently contracted lead baseball producer, last year was seen and heard as one of the creative forces behind the XFL, there isn’t even a hint of his XFL experience in his current bio.

But few who once worked for or with Vince McMahon see fit to recall that period in their lives, thus Weisman’s XFL-less bio was highly predictable.

Checkout Counter: ESPN’s “Outside the Lines,” Sunday at 9:30 a.m., asks and answers the question whether patrons of sports events put their safety at risk when wearing the jerseys of visiting teams.

“OTL” focuses on Edward Allen, 26, from Philadelphia, who last month wore his Eagles’ jersey to the Eagles at Redskins Monday nighter. After the game, Allen was beaten unconscious by Redskins’ fans. Both orbital bones in his face were broken, as were his nose and jaw.

Eagle games in Philly have long produced similar results. A friend, several years ago, was witness to a woman, wearing a Cowboys’ jacket, being assaulted by drunks in the parking lot before a Cowboys-Eagles game. The attack ended only after the jacket had been ripped from her body.

By the way, Raiders’ home games rarely sell out. Could it be that those wild and crazy Raider fans – the ones the NFL and its partner TV networks celebrate as among the league’s best – are wild and crazy enough to keep less demonstrative folks away?
