After the Islanders’ fifth straight loss on Tuesday night, there was exactly one thing Patrick Roy wanted to talk about: shift length.
Roy brought up shift length in nearly every answer during his press conference.
Asked about the team’s confidence, he said it had to do with the length of their shifts. Asked how the club might stop sagging after giving up a goal, he said shorter shifts. Asked whether he was surprised this losing streak came after a six-game win streak, he said the solution was cutting down on shift length.
“If we want to match what Carolina is doing,” he said, pounding the table, “we can’t stay on the ice as long as we’re doing. The length of our shift is gonna be a big part of our game right now.”
