Pete Alonso sounded excited about Vlad Guerrero’s $500 million, 14-year mega deal, and it’s surely a general boost for their slugging, first-base brethren, which is nice.
But does it actually aid Alonso? That’s less certain.
The Mets’ star clearly is headed back to free agency — exercising his opt-out is basically a fait accompli — so get ready for a second winter of free agency drama.
Though Alonso’s almost guaranteed to do much better in Round 2, it has little to do with Guerrero.
