NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. — Alex Smalley has gotten himself into a bit of a quandary this week.

 And it’s all of his own doing.

He’s paying a steep price for playing so damned well in this week’s PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club. So well that he’s taking a two-shot lead — at 6 under par — into Sunday’s final round.

Smalley, you see, is not only not an attention seeker. He’s actually uncomfortable with being noticed at all.
