RICHMOND – The Islanders’ scoring woes continue.
Capitals rookie defenseman Mike Farrell beat John Vanbiesbrouck with 5:18 left in the third period last night to lift Washington to a 2-1 exhibition win and drop the Isles to 0-3-1 this preseason.
In their four games, the Islanders’ have managed a total of five goals.
They were 0-for-7 on the power play last night, though they did manage to throw 35 shots at Capitals goalie Craig Billington.
Mariusz Czerkawski scored the only Islander goal, beating Billington at 10:08 of the third period to tie the score 1-1. It was Czerkawski’s second goal of the preseason.
Jan Bulis had given the Caps a 1-0 lead on the power play 13:03 into the first period.
Vanbiesbrouck stopped 15 shots.
