Pair of 3-year-old fillies both coming off maiden victories finished 1-2 in yesterday’s feature, $65,000 Busher at mile-and-sixteenth. Trendy Lady, stretching out from six furlongs in just her third start, galloped along on slow pace (:24.1, :49.2, 1:15.3) under Jose Santos, led by daylight with furlong to run but could not withstand late run of Regal Engagement, coming off seven-length maiden romp here Jan. 20 for trainer Tom Bush, who paid $17.80 with Ramon Dominguez up. Best horse in race might have been 4-5 favorite Daytime Promise, who was well off early pace under Norberto Arroyo Jr., rallied inside on far turn, then was stuck in tight along rail down stretch when Regal Engagement went by to go after Trendy Lady. When she finally swung off fence for running room, Daytime Promise finished like freight train but settled for third. Arroyo claimed foul against Dominguez; stewards wisely let result stand.

SECOND RACE: Nice ride by meet’s top apprentice, Kyle Kaenel, aboard 8-1 Nebraska Moon, stepping up to 35G after being claimed last out by Bruce Levine for 25G from Dominic Galluscio. Jet Prospector shot out of gate to take daylight lead down backside, chased by 4-5 favorite Seeking the Glory, Eibar Coa up. Around far turn, Seeking the Glory went up after Jet Prospector, and those two battled to mid-stretch, when ‘Glory’ began to edge clear. Nebaska Moon, who last won for 50G last June at Belmont, after dropping well back off early pace, rallied inside around turn, swung out to split horses mid-stretch, finished full of run to take command final yards.

THIRD RACE: Red Damask, 3-2 favorite under Alan Garcia after finishing second as 2-1 choice last out, gunned to front from outside post 7, cleared field, dropped down to rail to set pace around clubhouse turn. In cat-and-mouse game down backside, Royal Good, 2-1 under Ramon Dominguez, ranged up to pressure Red Damask, then took back off pace, then came on again around far turn to bid for lead. Top of stretch, just when it looked as if Royal Good was ready to take command, Red Damask suddenly kicked into gear and drew off, while Royal Good stopped as if he hit brick wall, backing up through field to finish next to last.

SIXTH RACE: Huge effort by 5-year-old gelding Goleador at 22-1, making first start for trainer Kim Laudati since Nov. 4. Prince Benjamin went to front around clubhouse turn, then Stash the Boots went up to pressure pace down backside, with 5-2 favorite Kakapo tucked inside behind them hugging rail under Pablo Fragoso. Nearing far turn, Goleador, Jose Espinoza up, commenced sustained outside move, ranged up to bid for lead turning for home, and while Kakapo was forced to wait for running room before finally squeezing through hole along fence top of stretch, Goleador collared leaders, kicked away through final furlong to win with authority.
