Dwight Gooden may be taking his first steps back to world of Pinstripes.
Gooden met with George Steinbrenner yesterday for the first time since the ex-hurler’s Feb. 20 DWI arrest. Steinbrenner refused comment, but all signs point to Gooden being reinstated to his assistant position in the Boss’ front office.
Gooden, 37, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a lesser charge of reckless driving. The former Met and Yankee star was stopped in February when Tampa police say they saw his car swerving on a local expressway. An open container was later discovered in Gooden’s car. He passed a field sobriety test.
Tuesday, the former All-Star was ordered by a Hillsborough County Court to complete DUI school and perform 21 hours of community service.
