PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland — Scottie Scheffler spent the better part of his youth wanting to be like Tiger Woods.

And now that he’s become the closest player to reach the dominance Woods displayed at the peak of his powers, Scheffler has made it clear that he’s not at all like his idol.

He’s quite the opposite, in fact.

Scheffler, the world No. 1 for the past 112 weeks and 146 in total, opened an emotional vein while speaking Tuesday in advance of this week’s British Open at Royal Portrush, delivering some stunning revelations in what can best be described as a deep and rambling meaning-of-life riff.
