SHAREEF SYDNEY-BOUND
The Vancouver Grizzlies’ Shareef Abdur-Rahim has been named to the USA Basketball team to compete in this summer’s Olympic Games.
Abdur-Rahim, who averaged a double-double this season for the Grizz, gets the nod in place of the hobbled Grant Hill, who continues to nurse a broken left ankle he sustained during the Pistons’ playoff loss to the Heat.
Other candidates who did not make the cut for the final roster spot included Kobe Bryant and Eddie Jones.
Abdur-Rahim will join Ray Allen, Vin Baker, Vince Carter, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Tim Hardaway, Allan Houston, Jason Kidd, Alonzo Mourning and Steve Smith for the games to be played in Sydney, Australia.
