We do not know, not yet, what Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel knew and when he knew it regarding Sherrone Moore’s conduct that led to the now-former Michigan football coach’s firing and arrest Wednesday.
It may be that Manuel, who has held his job since 2016 and who played football at Michigan from 1986-89, acted responsibly in a situation where he needed ironclad legal reason to fire Moore with cause. Credible reports from Ann Arbor, though, including from well-connected author and historian John U. Bacon, indicate that, at a minimum, Moore’s relationship with a staffer was an open secret in the program. That is not a good sign.
In any case, that should not impact the answer to the question of whether Manuel gets to hire the next head football coach at the University of Michigan because there is no more evidence needed to make that decision.
Warde Manuel (left) and Sherrone Moore talk before Michigan’s spring game. APManuel should be fired. He has long since lost the benefit of the doubt and should be unceremoniously dismissed as soon as possible.
