Arian Smith looked around and saw others who were older than him.

Then he saw them behind him — as he sprinted past them.

“That’s when I really knew I was fast,” Smith said this weekend. “It hit me then.”

Just 16 and in high school, he was competing with 20-year-olds at the 2019 Pan American U20 Athletics championships.
